Many of us don’t have the option of sending our kids to summer camp this year. This year we can try to do things differently. While we can’t replicate this experience in it’s entirety we can attempt to set up a bit up a summer camp at home. Not so different from home schooling we can engage in summer reading and outdoor activities that don’t make our children feel isolated from the world they live in.
Key Takeaways:
- Do a summer reading challenge at home to help your children continue to develop good habits and continue to stay focused on school.
- If you want to motivate your children to read, give them rewards to incentivize them such as an ice cream sundae.
- Make smores in the oven to give you that campfire type feel but without actually having to leave your home and stay at a campsite during the summer.
“Set the oven to a low broil. On a cookie sheet, place a square of chocolate on top of a square of graham cracker. Top with a large marshmallow. Place in the oven and allow to broil 1 – 2 minutes. Watch closely and pull them out just as the marshmallows begin to get brown and toasty on top.”
